This week’s picture is an orange kulfi that is sold opposite Vardhaan market on Camac Street in Kolkata in India. Kulfi is like South Asian gelato or ice-cream except that it is much more milky and creamy.
This vendor in Kolkata had stored his kulfi by freezing it on the inside of a scooped out orange. He served it by cutting it up into quarters like a real orange and once the customer was done with it, all he had to do was dispose of the peel saving him time and water on washing.
His packaging did two very important things – it infused the kulfi with the flavour of the real thing and it was ingeniously eco-friendly.
